Acli-Mate… paid off in dividends with how I felt at the end of each day

Derek's testimonial

For me, Acli-Mate is a home-run for improved hydration, energy, performance, and recovery from a sport drink. I was amazed at how my body stayed energized at the end of a day of hiking–no muscle soreness, no headaches, and no stiffness. When I backpacked the Grand Canyon, I used Acli-Mate religiously and it paid off in dividends with how I felt at the end of each day and each thousand feet of elevation change. I highly recommend Acli-mate for high-intensity workouts.

Meet the Skimo Race – Bryan Wickenhauser

Birthplace:  Milwaukee, WI

Current hometown and mountain range:  Gunnison, CO  Elk Mountains
If you were not born in the mountains, what drew you to them or enabled you to move to there:  Growing up I was an alpine ski racer chasing races all across the upper Midwest.  Once I got to see the Rocky Mountains for a ski training camp, I knew I had to eventually move to Colorado.

Age when you started skiing:  2 yrs old

Number of years you have been skiing:  38 yrs

How long have you been skimo racing:  My first backcountry ski race was the GORE-TEX Grand Traverse in the first edition of the race in 1998, completing every Grand Traverse but one since then.  Additionally, I have raced all seven years in the COSMIC Series …

How did you get into skimo racing:  The GORE-TEX Grand Traverse started in 1998 and I had just moved to Crested Butte in 1997 and thought I’d give it a go…how hard can 40 miles of skiing through the Elk Mtns be? ;)

Was there a moment of realization that helped you step it up to the next level of competition:  No one moment, but just a journey of little baby steps….the biggest thing is combining a passion of skiing powder and adventure.

What is your favorite thing about skimo racing:  The sense of adventure you get via the training, with lots of powder laps in the back country with great a great crew of friends.

What is your favorite skimo race:  The CB Skimo race, now with the addition of the Guide Ridge to the peak (1000’ of fixed lines), it really adds that missing element that they have in Europe…and once again adds to the sense of adventure.

What is your most memorable skimo moment:  My first GORE-TEX Grand Traverse victory with Brian Smith in 2010.  There are lots of “legends” on the trophy, so I was psyched to finally get my name on it!

What do you do to keep in shape for skimo racing in the off-season:  Play in the Elk Mountains via running, hiking and mountain biking and hit the weights.

What is your favorite non-skimo sport of hobby:  Watching my wife’s collegiate men’s & women’s XC running teams at Western State Colorado University, competing at the highest level in NCAA Division II in the Fall.  Seeing them put their heart & soul into fighting for the championship each year, gets me fired up skimo racing!

Wick & Smithy

Skimo race wins:

  • 2X GORE-TEX Grand Traverse winner
  • 3X US Ski Mountaineering Team member
  • 2010 Power of Four Winner
  • 2009 Five Peaks Men’s Team Winner

Skimo race you have not done that you would really like to do:  Pierra Menta

Preference of skimo race format (technical vs. non-technical; in-bounds vs. backcountry; etc):  Technical, Backcountry pairs/teams racing, and longer the better!

Preferred skimo gear (skis, bindings, skins, boots, pack, etc.):  Ski Trab bindings, Ski Trab World Cup skis, SCARPA Alien 1.0 boots, CAMP or Ski Trab skins, CAMP 260 Pack

Favorite piece of skimo gear:  CAMP Flash Anorak jacket.  I never leave home without it in the Summer or Winter when traveling fast & light in the mountains.

Best skimo training tip:  Boot, binding, skin (process for ripping skins in a transition)

Best advice for beginner skimo racers:  Do your intervals, eat your Wheaties and get with a training
group of more experienced racers than you….and watch/listen!

Skimo race nutrition preference:  8 oz. of Acli-mate hydration  and 2-3  “gu’s”

Favorite post race beverage:  Pastry & coffee

Washington Trails Association: Recognizes Acli-Mate® as an Editor’s Choice product

Acli-Mate® was recognized as an Editors Choice in the September – October 2012 issue of the Washington Trails Magazine which is a publication of Washington Trails Association.

Here is a copy of what editor, Eli Boschetto had to say about Acli-Mate®:

Breathe Easy

Two summers ago, I set out to hike the entire 220-mile length of the John Muir Trail in California’s Sierra Nevada. This trail had been at the top of my life-list, and I had been preparing for years. Three weeks and 134 miles into my trip, I bonked hard.

What happened? The first thing to go was my appetite. Even though I had packed all of my favorite foods, eating was an unpleasant chore. Next came the sleepless nights, tossing and turning in my bag, despite my exhaustion from hiking long days over 11K and 12K passes, only to get an hour or two of shuteye each night. In the last few weary days, the nausea struck.

When I arrived at my last resupply station, I was completely bedraggled and deflated. The station attendant immediately recognized altitude sickness. She gave me lots of electrolyte drink and encouraged me to get rehydrated and try to eat. I spent an extra day working on mending myself, knowing that the bigger, higher passes were still to come. After no noticeable improvement the next day, I decided not to risk my health and safety and exited the trail. But I would be back.

The following summer, just before my planned return to the JMT, I was introduced to a product called Acli-Mate. This all-natural drink supplement employs a formula of vitamins, minerals, electrolytes and herbal extracts to assist in dealing with prolonged high elevation exposure. It was worth a shot; in just a few weeks my wife, Mitzi, and I would be tackling the next section of the JMT, near where I had exited the year before. We would be at constant elevations of 11K and 12K feet. Mitzi was known to have issues with elevation above 10K feet, and from my experience the year before, I was now too.

We started a regimen of Acli-Mate the day before our hike, and every morning and evening during our hike. We felt great! We ate well, we slept well, and we practically ran up 12K-foot Glen Pass. Now, with a little Acli-Mate in our water bottles (Cran- Raz is our favorite), prolonged elevation exposureis no longer an issue on our favorite trails.

“Acli-Mate Truly Made a Difference in My Life”

First let me start by saying that I have never in my 66 years wrote a testimonial for a product.  I had to send this to you the manufacturer as your product Acli-Mate truly made a difference in my life.

I have been coming to Gunnison County Colorado for 14 years to visit with my daughter and have made the trip originally from New York and recently from Florida several times a year.  Every time I got to Colorado I started feeling dizzy, out of breath, severe headaches, body and hand shaking and had to fill a prescription for oxygen.  It seemed to me that the longer I stayed the sicker I felt.  Prior to my visits I would drink a lot of orange juice and a great deal of water to hydrate myself but nothing seemed to work.  My daughter has two small children and traveling to me in Florida has been a hardship so I make the trip but I admit it has been increasingly difficult to enjoy my grandchildren just taking them for a walk or going to the park.

It seemed that every hour I would have to sit down and take oxygen to breathe or lie down because the room felt like it was spinning and I would fall.

My daughter told me about this product Acli-Mate that is all natural and in a powder form and all I have to do is mix it with water.  She told me to start taking it three times a day for three days prior to coming to Colorado and to continue the same dosage all through out the trip.  We also decided that it would be helpful if I would spend one night in Denver and then go on to Crested Butte.

Well why am I so excited about this product.  IT WORKS!  It is very simple to carry in single dose packages and more economical in the tub and it tastes great.  For the first time in 14 years I had the best trip of my life.  I was able to stay for more than a week and did not have any of the above symptoms. I played with my grandchildren for hours at a time.  I had so much energy and stamina I couldn’t believe I was at 9800 feet above sea level.

Thank you for making this product.  I have made plans to visit again in the spring and will follow-up with another visit in the summer.  Snow is not my thing.

Sincerely,

Adrianne from Delray Beach, Florida

Acli-Mate helped me through 5 days of backpacking the High Sierras

I truly believe Acli-Mate Mountain helped get me through 5 days of backpacking in the High Sierras in California (10-12,000 ft) and allowed me to see some of the most spectacular lakes. Not once did I have a headache and was able to keep up the energy through the most grueling hikes. It will definitely be my go-to for any future elevation gains.

Thanks again, Lora Battaglia

“I am thoroughly enjoying this product!”

Taste – “Smooth taste and flavorful, not overbearing”

Sugar content – “Does not taste too sugary”

Electrolytes – “Ran a 24-miler (over 3-hrs) recently with 24-ounces of Acli-Mate (one hand-held bottle), a few gels, and felt great; no problem with muscle/leg cramping and just sipping the beverage from the bottle (while running) every 10-20 minutes seemed to keep me satiated and hydrated.”

Energy – “Good, solid energy boost; so far I’ve felt strong while running with the beverage and even better when using it as a recovery drink along with ample water intake.”

Recovery – “Excellent recovery; legs and overall energy have rebounded quickly with the use of Acli-Mate post long training runs in addition to focused water intake for optimal re-hydration.”

“Excellent overall product with a blend of important electrolytes, other vitamins and minerals, and acclimation to altitude substances to boot! I am thoroughly enjoying this product!”

Acli-Mate® helped our daughter minimize her altitude sickness

Acli-Mate truly helped our daughter minimize her severe altitude sickness. We are from Florida so going from sea level to Crested Butte at roughly 9500 feet, is always tough.  We keep an oxygen condenser unit in our Colorado home so our daughter doesn’t feel so bad.  After starting the Acli-Mate three days prior to our trip and the first few days of being at a high altitude, she was fine.  No oxygen, no getting sick.  Everything was great.  I highly recommend Acli-Mate for the low-landers heading “up”!!!

“Acli-Mate is a couple of pounds we don’t want to part with on Denali climb”

Denali, because it is so close to the Arctic Circle feels like a much higher mountain. What is impressive about Denali is that you start your expedition at about 7,000  and push up, totally self-reliant and self-powered (i.e. no Sherpas, no helpers etc…). Denali is known for its very unpredictable weather and even during its climbing season (End of April to early June), it presents a challenge that you won’t get sometimes even in the Himalayas.

Yet in the winter, she is fierce and deadly and altitude, length and constant subzero temperatures take an unprecedented toll on the body.

We lost over 15 pounds each in 19 days last year. The body suffers and the constant fight for survival is tough. We pull up 1 month of gear and provisions in huge backpacks and sleds – the weather is too harsh to sleep in tents so we must dig a new snow cave at every stop and it takes about 5 hours – the constant subzero temperatures slowly destroy the gear that freezes, stays frozen and looses its insulation power – in Feb, it is still very dark so that ads an extra challenge to the climb too.

Artur led the only successful January expedition on McKinley summiting Jan 16, 1996. It has since then been tried few times without luck.

For us and for all the true survival reasons mentioned above, we need Acli-Mate when we are out there to stay as hydrated as we can and as strong as possible for as long as possible. Carrying all our provisions ourselves up to 17,200 or 19,200 (last camps), careful decisions are made prior to departure regarding the usefulness of each and every item we are thinking of taking. Every ounce on our back and on the sleds counts. Acli-Mate is a couple of pounds we do not want to part with. It hydrates us, picks us up when we get low and keeps us going. It is natural which matters to us as our diet is horrible out there.

We climbed McKinley twice last year, once in May and once in June. By the 2nd time, we were already hooked on Acli-Mate so we made a couple of pix of us with it for you to see. Both pix with Acli-Mate were taken at Windy Corner, about 13,500 feet)…

“Best ski trip of my life”

I am an avid skier and photographer in Salt Lake City.  When an old ski buddy from Ohio and I reconnected via facebook I had a plan to try to ensure that we would not be missing any epic powder turns due to fatigue or problems with the altitude.  I quickly ordered some Acli-Mate online and it arrived the day before his plane landed.  Minutes after he got in the car I handed him a water bottle with a serving of the grape Acli-Mate.  We both drank our Acli-Mate while we shared stories from back in the day.  Within less than an hour after picking him up we were in our ski gear at 10,000 feet at the top of the Collins lift at Alta.  We skied hard for the rest of the day while it continued to dump the greatest snow on earth.

We both woke up early the next day eager to ski the fresh snow with no complaints of sore muscles.  With Acli-Mate and a big breakfast, we skied even harder the second day making multiple laps in area that we had to hike a boot pack to earn our turns.  Thanks to the Acli-Mate we hiked and skied this area for most of the afternoon.  My Ohio ski buddy charged hard all day long.  He said it was the best ski trip of his life.

Thanks Acli-Mate!

Acli-Mate is a Great Product!

“Acli-Mate is a must for all who seek the mountains”

Acli-Mate gives back to your body what it deserves in nutrition, so recovery is enhanced. Acli-Mate is a must for all who seek the mountains.  Plus it tastes great in hot or cold weather. After a cool-rainy day of setting up our basecamp up at 10,000ft, high in the West Elk Mountains, we served Acli-Mate hot like a tea.  It was great!  We warmed up and gained the benefits of Acli-Mate immediately.

Acli-Mate gave me a ‘boost’ in my energy

Just wanted to let you know that I started using Acli-Mate a few days before heading off on an Eastern plains antelope hunt, even though I live at a higher elevation than what I would be hunting. Acli-Mate gave me a “boost” in my energy level, without making me feel jittery or hyped up on caffeine. Fact is, I liked it so much that I took packages with me to the hunting camp and gave it to the “real flat landers” that had come up to 6,000 feet to chase antelope and deer.

Without exception, everyone in camp said that it perked them up, gave them a “higher energy” enthusiasm level and didn’t make them “crash,” as is so often with those super-sugar, super-caffeine energy or sports drinks!  Overall, it made everyone feel pretty darn good!

Thanks for putting out a product that does what its advertised to do!

Acli-Mate Rules!

Acli-Mate rules!

I was traveling to the Leadville 100 mtb race from here in New Jersey (altitude 36ft).  I was very concerned about the effect the altitude was going to have on my race, as I have not fared well when I’ve traveled into the Rockies before this.  I was speaking with Rick Garcia at Tuneup Bikes in Gunnison a couple weeks prior to the race, and he highly recommended your product (he spoke highly of your company, and directed me to buy from your website instead of buying from his bike shop, which I thought said a lot).  I started on the Citrus flavor 3x a day, beginning 3 days before my travel (Thursday, race on Saturday).  I continued to use it up till race morning.

I am now the proud owner of a silver finisher’s belt buckle- 11hrs 6min on a single speed- without any altitude problems!  I consider your product part of my success, and I plan on continuing it’s use back here in Jersey.

Thanks very much.

Acli-Mate before and after I’m hunting, skiing, biking or running

I live in Colorado above 6,000 feet, so I am already acclimated to the altitude.  However, everyone who lives at altitude knows that you are still just as susceptible to high-altitude dehydration as the next person.

I recently climbed over 2,000 feet in elevation in the scorching sun on an archery elk hunt.  Despite my attempt to drink a lot of water, I got severely dehydrated and was left with a nasty headache that persisted straight through the next day.

The following morning, with my headache still there, I drank the Acli-Mate before heading out on my next hunt. To my delight my headache soon went away.  I went on to climb the mountain ridge and have another great day of hunting.

I really like the taste of Acli-Mate and I appreciate that it’s sweetened with Stevia and made with all natural ingredients.  It has a lighter taste than other sports drinks on the market. I’ll continue to use Acli-Mate before and after I’m hunting, skiing, biking or running.
